Atmos believe that training and development of staff is essential to the quality of services we provide to our clients. The extensive knowledge and skills we have acquired on hundreds of pipelines are shared in regular internal training courses and as part of work practices. The company also encourages its employees to engage in training outside the company, ranging from MBAs to day courses.

Atmos’ Chief Executive Officer, Dr Jun Zhang, is the inventor of the world renowned statistical pipeline leak detection system, Atmos Pipe. Jun developed the system during her seven years at Shell under the name ‘Shell’s Statistical Pipeline Leak Detection (SPLD) system’. Jun founded Atmos International in 1995, and the statistical system has replaced numerous leak detection systems at Shell, BP, ExxonMobil, Total and many other major oil companies around the world. Jun holds a BSc, MSc, PhD, and MBA.
Global Director of Finance, Administration, and Marketing, Michael Twomey, has worked in the oil and gas industry for 36 years. Michael founded the US office in 1999 and the Costa Rica office in 2010 and has built a highly skilled, multi-disciplined team to support Atmos applications in Americas. Michael uses his unique understanding of the pipeline industry to introduce effective Atmos solutions to numerous key pipeline operators in new and existing markets. A relentless champion of innovation, he is a firm advocate for the Atmos philosophy of offering a complete suite of leak detection methods. Different pipeline types require different leak detection methods to assure the detection of every leak.
Daniel Short joined the company in 2003 as a Senior Engineer and has moved through a number of roles to become Senior Vice President Commercial and Global Sales Director. His previous positions included Deputy Operations Manager and Commercial Manager. This diverse background means he is ideally placed to understand the demands of the pipeline industry. By listening to clients’ needs, Daniel can target sales strategies and new product development to benefit the highly specialized sector of pipeline management. This customer focused approach provides Atmos clients with the best possible service for their unique requirements. Daniel is a Chartered Engineer and holds a MEng in Electronic Engineering from the University of Bradford.
Research and Development Director, Andrew Hoffman has pioneered the use of patented rarefaction wave technology within many of Atmos’ newer products since joining the company in 2009. Andy’s main focus is on research and development of new products and services that can protect our customers from the consequences of pipeline leaks or thefts. Andy holds a MA in engineering from Cambridge University.
Our experienced project managers guide customers through the process of building and installing a software system and are available to answer questions and queries that you many have.
Atmos engineers are knowledgeable in a wide range of application subjects. They travel to site to install Atmos systems and tune them to ensure the most accurate, reliable and robust solutions. They also provide maintenance and support.
Developers and testers
Atmos software developers have a thorough understanding of our clients’ application needs, they continue to develop new products and improve existing ones. Their skills and knowledge base are unique in the pipeline industry. Our testing team ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality prior to release.
Our chief scientists are some of the top mathematicians and physicists in the world. They can understand complex mathematical problems and convert the solvers to user-friendly computer codes.
Atmos researchers continue to push the limit of technology in pipeline leak and theft detection. They are dynamic, responsive and keen to build new products to help our clients optimize the safety and cost of their pipeline operations.
