TurkStream 2 In Early Preparation Stages
Gazprom has begun preparations for the second pipeline in the proposed TurkStream natural gas pipeline. This will form the second string of the two-line TurkStream natural gas pipeline to Turkey.
Each of the two proposed lines will have a capacity of 15.75 Bcm per year. The project is designed to supply the Turkish domestic market and markets in southeast Europe, bypassing the traditional route via Ukraine.
The details of the pipeline’s onward route from Turkey has yet to be confirmed by Gazprom. The first line is due to be completed in 2018, with the second in 2019 for gas to start flowing by the end of 2019. Gazprom has said the line could split into two after landfall in Turkey; with one branch headed for Italy via Greece, and the other moving gas northward via Bulgaria and Serbia to Hungary.
