The crude oil was discharged from a pipeline near Bay Long, Louisiana, on September 5, 2016, according to the United States Coast Guard.
A Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company vessel conducting excavation operations struck the Harvest Pipeline Company pipeline. The vessel’s owner has contracted ECM Maritime Services, an oil response organization, to manage clean-up operations.
Environmental Safety & Health has deployed 3,000 feet of hard-boom, while OMI Environmental Solutions and Clean Gulf Association have been using sorbent material and skimmers to collect the oil. 150 people and 25 boats have been deployed to Louisiana's Bay Long to contain and recover oily water from the pipe leak Apart from oily water, workers have also captured and treated more than 200 birds caught in the oil spill.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality continues with its effort to assess the impacts on the shoreline caused by the oil spill.
