With the increase in US oil and gas production, new challenges and opportunities are being created within new and current markets in the US and around the world. Two bills currently going through the Senate and House of Representatives aim to make it easier for future pipeline infrastructure projects to be approved to meet with increased production. Some weeks ago the Promoting Cross-Border Energy Infrastructure Act, sponsored by Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Westville was approved by the House.
This bill will remove the requirement for presidential approval for pipelines crossing the Canadian or Mexican borders. It was this requirement that helped to delay the Keystone XL pipeline approval for six years under President Obama. Providing the bill is approved by the Senate and President Trump the legislation would give the Federal Environmental Regulatory Commission final approval for such projects. However, opponents say that these bills remove key safeguards designed to protect landowners and the environment. Related articles
