On Monday morning in Montijo, Portugal an oil leak from a fuel pipeline broken by thieves was reported to local police. A passerby noticed liquid coming from a pipeline in a hole dug by thieves to access the pipeline. The multiproduct pipeline was initially spilling petrol when the incident was reported, but by the time the police were on the scene the line was leaking diesel.
The leak is now being contained, with environmental crews and engineers on site. The pipeline is used to carry petrol, diesel, and gas from the Sines refinery to the Aveiras storage facility.
